The Big O

Second semester has just begun and I am already up to my neck in homework. The nice thing about this semester is that I won't be working so I can focus my attention to my school work. I mean, it's my last semester ever so I want to make it really count.

First completed project of the semester was for interpretive and it is the first piece of my new thesis. I intend on focusing it on doing portraits. I don't want to limit myself to just pop culture, I want to do politicians, religious figures, interest pieces, etc. Our first assignment was to interpret the Greek story of Sisyphus and relate it to our thesis. For those of you who don't know, Sisyphus was a Greek king who was punished by Zeus and Thanatos for his trickery; Sisyphus was to roll a boulder up a hill and when the boulder reached near the top, it would always come rolling back down. This task lasted for eternity. So basically, it's an endless challenge or struggle.

My interpretation to my thesis was relating it to Oprah because her endless challenge or struggle is her weight. One of her most famous/controversial episodes was when she came out on the set with a wagon filled with a bag of 60+ pounds of fat. Oprah was at her smallest she had ever been at that moment in her life. She used the bag of fat to show her audience and viewers what 60 pounds actually looks like and how she had been carrying that around. Since then, she has gained most of the weight back and says she looks back on those days when she was so thin with regret.

Fourth Year - First Semester

I don't know why it has taken me so long to post my work up from last semester. Overall I'm very satisfied with the result and happy with what I produced. Unfortunately I am not going to upload my final piece because it was probably the worst thing I've ever created lol. I was so sick and I forced myself to do it. I think it's currently being used as a desk wedge...so I have high regards for it.

Anywho let me just get you up to speed! My thesis was based on idioms about appearances so things like: Still Waters Run Deep, Never Judge a Book by Its Cover, Looks Are Only Skin Deep, etc. Below are the ones that I ended up illustrating. If you have any questions let me know!
