Holiday Gifts Ideas For String Players - Strings Magazine

It's always exciting getting to do decorative seasonal work. It helps me get in a state of excitement for the snow before I realize how painfully cold winter can be. This illustration was completed for Strings Magazine holiday issue. My assignment was basically to incorporate stringed instruments into the holidays. I actually had a lot of fun doing this because I got to make some cool custom patterns. If you look closely the snowflakes are made up of stringed instruments, bass, alto, and treble clefs.

Thank you Emily for considering me for this wonderful project!

Here is a shot of the magazine itself along with some pieces of the article:

Best of Show - Ottawa Magazine

Another illustration for the Ottawa Magazine for their food & wine edition. This illustration was for the article Best of Show by David Lawrason. It was conducted at the Ottawa Wine Challenge and experts had to find the best wines out of 337 bottles submitted.

I really wanted to play with this image because I love illustrations involving food/alcohol. I did so many variations for this assignment and I have some of them below:

Shameless Magazine - Making Your Own Medical Decisions

I was asked to complete an illustration for Shameless Magazine back in August for an article by Cate Simpson titled Making Your Own Medical Decisions. The title of the article is self-explanatory but I strongly urge you to pick up a copy. This magazine is targeted toward female and trans-gendered youth which I believe is very important in today's society.

This is a larger version of the illustration. I am very happy with how it turned out. It's a simple image but it really gets the point across.

I worked with the wonderful Sheila Sampath on this project and here are a few of the roughs for the assignment:

Mary Kay Gift Cards

A while back my mom asked me to design her some promotional gift cards for her Mary Kay business. They arrived today and I'm quite pleased with how they turned out! But I think I'm done with pink for a very long time.

If anyone in the Ottawa area is interested in purchasing any Mary Kay products and would like a gift certificate please let me know.

I finally decided to take a crack at stand-up comedy. I was so nervous before I went up my sister told me I was as pale as a ghost. I almost didn't do it but I figured hey, what have I got to lose. New Business Cards!

After about a two and a half week wait my business cards finally arrived! I realized that I was still running on my old cards that I rushed before my grad show a year ago. I knew that with the whole re-vamp of my website, new business cards needed to come, too. So let me take you on a little presentation adventure:

I was told by UPS I would have them by Friday but I knew that wouldn't happen. I had to go to an art show that evening and it would have been nice to have but hey, tis life. Come Monday morning I knew that I would have them in hours. I also desperately needed a shower so I figured I would hop in super fast. Of course, they came at that time. Luckily someone was here and got the package. PHEW! As I ran downstairs this is what I see.

I took scissors to it and opened the box with care. I was holding my breathe at this point because I knew that if they didn't turn out I would have to order a new batch. But to my delight I saw the card sitting on top and I knew that they had printed to my exact expectations.

I couldn't be happier with the results. I mean, there's owls on my business cards. Can it get any better?

Below is the digital version of the cards. Front and back:

Ottawa Magazine

I was recently asked to complete an illustration for the Ottawa Magazine. The article is titled 'Get A Real Job' by Fateema Sayani and it's about how modern day workers must rely on multiple streams of income to support themselves.

I decided to play with multiple 'streams' being my main visual reference and work from there. Ultimately I am very pleased with the outcome

Here are some other examples of roughs I completed. I had about 12 ideas and the art director narrowed them down to two:

Star Wars - Side by Side Collective

I present to you the next piece of the collective I am a part of called Side by Side Collective. In case you haven't already seen, click here. Our new project's theme was Star Wars. When I first saw this I got SO excited because I thought it would be a really fun opportunity to try something new. Also, it's Star Wars. Surprisingly, it was so hard for me to come  up with something. I think I was intimidated by the project due to the vast culture and story that it is made up of.

What I ended up going with was something that I knew I would enjoy drawing. An intergalactic drag queen, Aka, Queen Amidala.

I am quite please with how the image turned out. Based on the response from the image I may do more. Thoughts?

Burst of Spring!

This piece was inspired by a couch that my mother owns. It sounds strange but I am quite pleased with how this piece turned out. It was actually completed for Side by Side Collective. Please check us out by clicking the link below and follow us!
