Holiday Gifts Ideas For String Players - Strings Magazine

It's always exciting getting to do decorative seasonal work. It helps me get in a state of excitement for the snow before I realize how painfully cold winter can be. This illustration was completed for Strings Magazine holiday issue. My assignment was basically to incorporate stringed instruments into the holidays. I actually had a lot of fun doing this because I got to make some cool custom patterns. If you look closely the snowflakes are made up of stringed instruments, bass, alto, and treble clefs.

Thank you Emily for considering me for this wonderful project!

Here is a shot of the magazine itself along with some pieces of the article:

Shameless Magazine - Making Your Own Medical Decisions

I was asked to complete an illustration for Shameless Magazine back in August for an article by Cate Simpson titled Making Your Own Medical Decisions. The title of the article is self-explanatory but I strongly urge you to pick up a copy. This magazine is targeted toward female and trans-gendered youth which I believe is very important in today's society.

This is a larger version of the illustration. I am very happy with how it turned out. It's a simple image but it really gets the point across.

I worked with the wonderful Sheila Sampath on this project and here are a few of the roughs for the assignment:

New Business Cards!

After about a two and a half week wait my business cards finally arrived! I realized that I was still running on my old cards that I rushed before my grad show a year ago. I knew that with the whole re-vamp of my website, new business cards needed to come, too. So let me take you on a little presentation adventure:

I was told by UPS I would have them by Friday but I knew that wouldn't happen. I had to go to an art show that evening and it would have been nice to have but hey, tis life. Come Monday morning I knew that I would have them in hours. I also desperately needed a shower so I figured I would hop in super fast. Of course, they came at that time. Luckily someone was here and got the package. PHEW! As I ran downstairs this is what I see.

I took scissors to it and opened the box with care. I was holding my breathe at this point because I knew that if they didn't turn out I would have to order a new batch. But to my delight I saw the card sitting on top and I knew that they had printed to my exact expectations.

I couldn't be happier with the results. I mean, there's owls on my business cards. Can it get any better?

Below is the digital version of the cards. Front and back:

Happy Belated Birthday Marli

This is an overdue birthday present for my friend Marli. It’s an illustrated version of her little ‘goofball.’ He’s a 1.5 year old quaker parrot!

Free Wallpaper!

It has been a month since my last post and I apologize for those of you who actually follow my blog! I just moved back to Ottawa so I needed to wrap everything up, didn't have a lot of time for illustration. Now that I'm home I'm going to throw myself back into my work and attempt an illustration career lol. I decided to make a free wallpaper for anyone who's interested!

I made four colour versions to give a bit of a selection.

IMPORTANT - MAKE SURE YOU TILE THE BACKGROUNG

Enjoy:

If done correctly, it will look something like this:
