Shameless Magazine - Making Your Own Medical Decisions

I was asked to complete an illustration for Shameless Magazine back in August for an article by Cate Simpson titled Making Your Own Medical Decisions. The title of the article is self-explanatory but I strongly urge you to pick up a copy. This magazine is targeted toward female and trans-gendered youth which I believe is very important in today's society.

This is a larger version of the illustration. I am very happy with how it turned out. It's a simple image but it really gets the point across.

I worked with the wonderful Sheila Sampath on this project and here are a few of the roughs for the assignment:

Ottawa Magazine

I was recently asked to complete an illustration for the Ottawa Magazine. The article is titled 'Get A Real Job' by Fateema Sayani and it's about how modern day workers must rely on multiple streams of income to support themselves.

I decided to play with multiple 'streams' being my main visual reference and work from there. Ultimately I am very pleased with the outcome

Editorial Attack!!

I have been trying to revamp my portfolio with some editorial pieces as that tends to be the direction I have always found myself going in the illustration world. These pieces are all inspired by various articles I have found online. Thoughts?

This first piece is based on an article by Zosia Bielski titled: Popping the question in the digital world.

The second is an article by Gordon Hamilton titled: Environment on mind for beer brewers.

This last piece is based on an article about Open marriage: Who does it, how it works and why
it doesn't by Tralee Pearce.

Two Updates In One Week?! *gasp*

This week has been rather interesting. I managed to get a lot of painting done for assignments I didn't know I had until the very last minute. Oh well. So this week we had the choice of two articles: a heavy metal lovin' conservative and a man who rants about online dating. I was originally going to do two because my prof is taking these images to the National Post and they could potentially be published. Therefore I knew that I needed to bring my A game to this assignment. Unfortunately I didn't get around to doing a second image because a) I ran out of time and b) I thought that if I was going to submit two, they were going to be two GOOD images, not one good and one bad lol.

Here's what the online dating one would have looked like (sorta)
Here's what I ended up going with:
