Under the Night Sky

10x15'

My contribution for upcoming show EhOK! at Canteen gallery on July 3rd.

Canada is seen by the world in many different ways. Some see it as a prosperous nation with a strong economy and excellent social systems. While others, most of the world, see it as a frozen tundra that is inhabited by lumberjacks who live in igloos and can't finish a sentence without "eh?". This piece represents that stereotype and provokes the audience to question the subject matter.

Very First Oil Painting *tear*

So for my 20th birthday (last year) I got a really nice set of oil paints that I never used. I had every intention of using them but I was really hesitant due to the fact that they can take up to a month to dry. SO me being the really impatient person that I am put it on the back burner. I was flipping through a book by Mark Ryden and I was just really inspired to try oil painting. SO. Here it is! It's really just an experimental piece to learn how the paints work. I was pleased with the right side of the face as I did it a week ago, and then I finished up the left side of the face last night. Lol I don't think it's quite as good as the opposing side but who knows.

April Fools Painting

So... funny story about this piece lol. Well, not so much the piece but more the events leading up to doing it. Beth, being the wonderful person she is, came up to Sarah and I before we went to class and she told us that Ted (our instructor) threw a giant fit. He was SO mad that no one was setting up, he flipped a table and got ink everywhere. Sarah and I were like... O_O WHAT? Two seconds later Beth is like 'April Fools.' I was like... I HATE YOU BETH LOL.

Painting Class

Recent in-class painting session result. I am really pleased
with how it turnt out. We get to choose how we want to work
this semester. I did have a different way before but then I
hated it SO much lol so I think I'm just going to work like
this with acrylic.

"Request for urgent business relationship"

Most recent assignment for interpretive class. The purpose of the assignment was to create a narrative series of illustrations that examine and develop the characters inhabiting the world of Nigerian Fruad email. If you aren't familiar with these emails perhaps you can check your inbox for those pesky "business proposals" where you have been informed of winning $1,000,000 + dollars. Apparently some people have actually fallen for these and some people have ended up dying as a result? I'm not positive on that one so don't hold me to that.

We could interpret in any way we wanted it. Some people went really abstract while others went for a more obvious approach. Either way, it was a fun project. An interesting way of taking something that I may have thought was a bit boring at first and turning into something I really enjoy =)! My story was based on a woman from the UK trying to steal my identity by asking for my SIN number, bank info, etc. because I won the lottery and I she needed to transfer the funds lol. In reality, she's trying to steal my identity. So here is my solution:
